Rumi’s Gambit is a community chess tournament hosted by the House of Afghanistan for players of all ages and skill levels.

The tournament is designed to be welcoming, organized, and family-friendly. Players will compete in age-based divisions, with structured rounds, clear rules, and awards for top finishers.

Whether this is your first tournament or you have years of experience, Rumi’s Gambit is an opportunity to play, think, compete, and connect with others through one of the world’s great games.

Age Divisions

Players will be grouped by age so that games are fair and enjoyable.

Suggested divisions include:

Under 8
Under 12
Under 16
Open Division
Adult Division

Final divisions may be adjusted based on registration.

Who Can Participate

This tournament is open to the community. Players do not need to be Afghan or have any prior connection to the House of Afghanistan.

Experienced chess players

Tournament Format

The final tournament format will depend on the number of registered players.

What to Bring

Players should bring a good attitude, patience, and readiness to play.

Chess sets and clocks may be provided, but players may be asked to bring their own if needed. Additional details will be shared with registered participants before the tournament.

Parents and Spectators

Parents, family members, and spectators are welcome.

Parents or guardians of younger players should remain available during the tournament. Spectators may be asked to observe quietly during games so players can focus.

Code of Conduct

All players are expected to compete with respect and good sportsmanship.

Players should follow the rules, respect their opponents, avoid distracting others, and accept results with maturity. Tournament staff will be available to answer questions and resolve any issues during play.

The House of Afghanistan reserves the right to remove any participant who disrupts the event or behaves disrespectfully toward players, volunteers, or guests.
